What the heck is a “Martingale”? Sometimes called a “limited choke” or "training collar”, martingale collars were originally designed for Sighthounds, who, since their heads are smaller than their necks, were constantly backing out of regular buckle collars. These collars have since become popular with all breeds of dog - who among us hasn’t seen a dog pull so hard on a regular buckle collar that it loosens, they back up, and are free to run into traffic!
Because martingale collars have a few extra parts than buckle collars, they can be intimidating and hard to figure out how to fit the first time. Things such as fitting collars are notoriously difficult to describe with the written word, but the following you-tube video demonstrates it beautifully!
